The Government has endorsed two bills that will regulate the work of the jury. It is proposed to impose on such a court a determination of guilt or innocence of the accused person in the criminal proceedings, which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years or life imprisonment. Earlier such legal rules have not been existed.
Apart from that, hearing of the case will last for one and a half months, not one and a half year as it is now, the number of jurors will be increased from three to seven and the number of judges hearing the case will be reduced from two to one.
"We simplify the procedure for forming a jury list: we exclude local councils from the procedure of its formation, which have been delaying the approval of the lists for months. We transfer these responsibilities directly to the territorial administrations of the State Judicial Administration," Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk stressed.
It should be noted that jury verdicts can be appealed on appeal.
