The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted the draft law "On the National Targeted Social Program "Drinking Water of Ukraine" for 2022-2026 developed by the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development. This was announced by the Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine Oleksii Chernyshov.

"The Government is creating opportunities to improve the quality of drinking water. In particular, a bill on ensuring the relevant conditions has just been approved at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. After all, the problem has existed for a long time - in Ukraine, 35% of water supply networks and 38% of drainage networks are in a state of emergency, so water quality is questionable. Meanwhile, in some areas there is still observed a schedule of water supply or the use of imported water. Therefore, proper financing of measures to provide the population with quality potable water, including financing of construction, reconstruction, overhaul of water supply networks, treatment facilities, drainage networks, etc., is a crucial objective for the state. And we count on the support of MPs in this issue," said Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine Oleksii Chernyshov.

According to the bill, funding for the provision of the population with drinking water in 2022-2026 to the tune of about UAH 28.5 billion is planned to allocate. Of these, more than UAH 16 billion - from the state budget, another UAH 11 billion - from other sources. In 2022, it is a question of financing in the amount of more than UAH 3 billion for the specified purposes.

"The bill developed by the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development with the active participation of the Association of Ukrainian Cities, which has been adopted by the Government today, will give communities an additional and effective tool to provide consumers with high-quality drinking water," said AUC Executive Director Oleksandr Slobozhan.

After approval by the Government, the bill will be submitted to the relevant Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

It should be noted, earlier the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the Concept of the National Targeted Social Program "Drinking Water of Ukraine" for 2022-2026 developed by the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development.
