Oleksiy Chernyshov meets with Holy See representatives

During a working visit to the Vatican, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Unity, Oleksiy Chernyshov, met with representatives of the Holy See: Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations; Archbishop Flavio Pace, Secretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity; Archbishop Michel Jalakh, Secretary of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches.

The discussions focused on maintaining interfaith dialogue and the importance of mutual understanding.

“Ukraine is a multi-confessional state, and our strength lies in this diversity. Religious unity is a vital part of national unity. The Ministry of National Unity of Ukraine is committed to strengthening interfaith dialogue, fostering mutual understanding, and supporting interreligious cooperation,” stated the Deputy Prime Minister.

The Holy See reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of unity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine.

Oleksiy Chernyshov emphasised the importance of ensuring mutual understanding and respect among all religious communities in Ukraine.

“In times of war, spiritual unity, solidarity, and mutual support are of paramount importance. We are one people, united by a common goal: a just peace, recovery, and a shared future,” the official underscored.

The Minister of National Unity also expressed deep condolences to the clergy on the passing of Pope Francis.

“His steadfast support for Ukraine, calls for peace, and humanitarian spirit will forever remain in our memory,” said Oleksiy Chernyshov.

In conclusion, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude to those present for their diplomatic and humanitarian support for Ukraine and its people.
