Oleksandr Tkachenko and Ernesto Ottone discuss areas of cultural cooperation between Ukraine and UNESCO
During a visit to France, Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko met with UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture Ernesto Ottone.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a world forum under the auspices of UNESCO to support Ukraine’s cultural heritage.
“For us, such a forum is extremely important to bring the issue of preserving Ukraine’s cultural heritage to a new level,” said Oleksandr Tkachenko.
One of the key issues discussed at the meeting was the steps to be taken to restore the Ivankiv Historical and Local History Museum and UNESCO’s assistance in this regard.
Oleksandr Tkachenko also reminded that Ukraine had submitted 3 nomination dossiers to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity: “Ukrainian Pysanka: Tradition and Art”, “Practice of Protecting the Kobzar-Lirnyk Tradition” and “White-on-White Embroidery Technology of Reshetylivka, Poltava Region”. The nominations are expected to be considered in 2024 and 2025.
“We are grateful to UNESCO for supporting Ukraine in difficult times. In the faces of the organisation’s leaders, we always feel like true friends who hear us and are ready to support us in both immediate and strategic needs,” the Minister said.
