  • Oleh Nemchinov met with State Secretary of the Ministry of Economics of Latvia

    Today, on 22 February, Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Oleh Nemchinov met with State Secretary of the Ministry of Economics of the Republic of Latvia Edmunds Valantis.

    The meeting was held at the initiative of the Latvian side as part of the State Secretary’s visit to Ukraine.

    “I am deeply grateful for Latvia’s comprehensive assistance to Ukraine and its unwavering strong political support. I look forward to strengthening and further development of Ukrainian-Latvian trade and economic relations. I also know that your country continues to finance projects to restore Chernihiv region in 2024-2025. And I really appreciate the contribution of the Ministry of Economics of Latvia to this process,” said Oleh Nemchinov, Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, opening the meeting.

    During the meeting, the parties discussed ways of future cooperation and determined the agenda, date and venue of the 10th meeting of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Latvian Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation. The Commission is an important tool for strengthening cooperation in the economic sphere, as well as the main platform for implementing joint initiatives and important strategic projects.

    Background

    Since the beginning of russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, Latvia has taken a proactive stance in supporting Ukraine in the political, humanitarian and military spheres. According to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, Latvia ranks 4th among the world’s leading countries in terms of commitments to assist Ukraine as a percentage of GDP.
