Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Oleh Uruskyy met with an official delegation of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Iraq led by Minister of Defence of the Republic of Iraq, Lt. Gen. Juma Anad Saadoun Al-Juburi.
During the meeting, the issues of resumption, after a historical pause, of cooperation between the countries were discussed.
The Deputy Prime Minister briefed the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Iraq on the further work of the newly established Ministry for Strategic Industries and reforms in defence industries, which are planned to be implemented in Ukraine. Oleh Uruskyy dwelled on that the Ministry will be responsible not only for the country's defence companies but also for military-technical cooperation.
The Deputy Prime Minister also noted: "I know that you have already had a meeting at the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, where you discussed some issues of bilateral cooperation. Our Ministry is also focused on the development of fruitful relations between the countries because we have things to offer."
In turn, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Iraq expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian side for the meeting and the opportunity to discuss current bilateral issues of cooperation. Lt. Gen. Juma Anad Saadoun Al-Juburi noted: "Iraq and Ukraine have a rich history of bilateral relations. Today we are here to give them a new impetus. I am convinced that the existing issues will be resolved. Iraq is interested in developing cooperation with Ukraine. At present, we are looking confidently into the future and the development of cooperation between the countries."
Apart from that, the Minister of Defence of Iraq stressed that he had the opportunity to get acquainted with the capabilities of some Ukrainian defence companies, including the aviation and missile industries.
Oleh Uruskyy stressed: "I had the opportunity to visit Iraq and I respect the Iraqi people and wish them only the best and prosperity." He noted that the Ministry for Strategic Industries will be directly responsible for cooperation in the defence industry and expressed hope for a positive outcome of the visit of the Iraqi delegation and the intensive development of relations between the two countries.
