The Government has approved a draft law on support for families before and after childbirth. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a Cabinet meeting on 14 July.

“The law increases the one-time payment to women after childbirth from UAH 10,300 to UAH 50,000. We are also significantly increasing payments to women who have given birth but lack professional work experience. Currently, such payments are less than UAH 1,000, but after the law is passed, they will amount to UAH 7,000 per month,” said the Prime Minister.

According to him, the draft law also includes monthly payments to one parent or guardian as childcare support until the child reaches one year of age. The amount of this payment will be determined separately by the Cabinet of Ministers.

“We are introducing the eYasla (eNursery) programme. After a child turns one, parents will have a choice: return to work or continue raising the child until age three,” the Prime Minister emphasised.

He noted that if parents choose the first option, the state will provide UAH 8,000 monthly, which can be used to cover childcare costs. The second option ensures that social security contributions are maintained for the parent until the child turns three.

Denys Shmyhal stressed that the Government continues to implement the “Baby Package” programme in two formats: in-kind assistance or a cash compensation of over UAH 7,500.

He also recalled that among new family support measures, the Government has approved the “School Starter Package” programme, which provides UAH 5,000 per first-grader to purchase essential school supplies.

“We are not just adding new payments or changing their mechanisms. We are introducing a new philosophy of state support, with people, their needs, and opportunities at the core,” said Denys Shmyhal, adding that the Ministry of Social Policy will provide detailed information on these options and how to access them.
