On 23 April, Defence Minister Andrii Taran has held a telephone conversation with the Secretary of State for Defence of Great Britain Ben Wallace.
Andrii Taran stressed on the irreversibility of a strategic course for European and Euro-Atlantic integration enshrined in the Constitution by achieving specific results of the consistent defence reform and implementation of NATO standards.
Heads of defence departments confirmed the strategic nature of the partnership, discussed the need for adjustments of key bilateral cooperation measures during the pandemic.
The Minister of Defence of Ukraine informed his counterpart about the current military and political situation in Ukraine and around its borders, in particular in the Joint Forces operation area in the East of Ukraine.
Andrii Taran also drew his attention to the measures taken by the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Ukraine to prevent and counter the spread of acute respiratory disease COVID-19.
Ben Wallace assured Andrii Taran of the steadfast support to Ukraine’s sovereignty, restoration of its territorial integrity and enhancement of the capabilities of the Armed Forces. He noted that the unwavering position of the British Government to condemn the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine will be preserved.
The parties agreed to continue the active dialogue at the level of heads of defence departments and their deputies, as well as to arrange mutual visits to UK and Ukraine this year, respectively.
