  • Ministry of Energy: Natural gas in storage reaches required level of 14.7 bcm
Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 19 September 2023 08:14

On 19 September, the total volume of natural gas in underground storage facilities reached 14.7 billion cubic metres. Thus, the plan of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to reach the forecast balance of natural gas in storage facilities required for the heating season has been achieved ahead of schedule.

This was announced by Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko. The Minister added that such results were achieved thanks to the effective work of the new management of Naftogaz of Ukraine and the coordinated work of all gas companies – Ukrgasvydobuvannya, Ukrtransgaz and the Ukrainian GTS Operator.

“Today, the entire energy sector and the oil and gas industry are actively preparing for the new heating season, which will take place in the face of russian attacks. The early accumulation of gas in our storage facilities is an important contribution to ensuring the country’s energy security,” said German Galushchenko.

The USAID Energy Security Project recently published a report on a stress test initiated by the Ministry of Energy and modelled by an international group of experts. The report shows that Ukraine’s gas transmission system and underground storage facilities are ready to operate successfully in the face of military challenges and in the event of a disruption of russian gas transit.
