Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Svitlana Grynchuk visited one of the stationary air monitoring posts and inspected a mobile environmental monitoring laboratory in Zaporizhzhia during her working visit to Zaporizhzhia region.
According to her, the city will be involved in a project implemented as part of the cooperation between the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources and the Finnish Meteorological Institute.
“For such an industrial centre, it is important to strengthen the network of observation posts in order to record pollution more quickly, analyse the causes of its occurrence, predict deterioration or improvement of the situation and make prompt decisions,” the Minister said.
The industrial burden in the region has also been compounded by russia’s large-scale aggression. As a result of russia’s actions in Zaporizhzhia region, the damage caused by air pollution from combustion products is already estimated at almost UAH 234 million.
“Thus, the focus of the Ministry is currently on strengthening cooperation with international partners to develop a monitoring system in Ukraine. Our goal is to move from fixed observations carried out several times a day to continuous round-the-clock monitoring of not only the state of the atmospheric air but also all other environmental components,” said Svitlana Grynchuk.
