Mykola Kalashnyk: From September 1, Ukrzaliznytsia will raise employee salaries by 10–15%

On September 1, Ukrzaliznytsia will increase salaries for employees by 10–15%. Minister for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine Mykola Kalashnyk announced this during a meeting with railway workers. The raise will primarily apply to shortage professions and will cover more than 150,000 employees of Ukrzaliznytsia.

Additional resources are directed first of all to specialists who ensure the stable operation of the railway every day: repairing locomotives and wagons, restoring infrastructure damaged by russian attacks, maintaining tracks, and keeping trains running without interruption.

“The railway works thanks to people. Every day railway workers keep the country moving, working under difficult conditions, restoring damaged infrastructure, and risking their lives due to russian attacks. Therefore, one of the key tasks for the Ministry and for me personally as Minister is to ensure decent working conditions for railway workers.

 We want people who keep the railway running every day to feel the value of their work and know that their contribution is properly recognized. The Ministry will do everything necessary to support railway workers and create conditions that encourage specialists to remain in the sector,” said Mykola Kalashnyk.

The decision to raise salaries was discussed with railway employees, Ukrzaliznytsia management, the company’s supervisory board, and Members of Parliament.

As the Minister noted, one of the first decisions of the Ministry’s team was to support the indexation of Ukrzaliznytsia’s freight tariffs. This step provides the railway with the resources needed for transportation, rolling stock repairs, restoration of infrastructure damaged by russian attacks, and higher wages for railway workers.

The next stage of freight tariff indexation is planned for January 1, 2027. This will allow for a phased review of Ukrzaliznytsia employee salaries next year.

Details on the mechanism and size of the raise for specific categories of employees will be communicated to the workforce shortly.

Railway infrastructure can be rebuilt and equipment repaired. But the foundation of the railway’s stable operation remains the people who keep it running every day during the war.
