We are looking for ways to evacuate our citizens from the left bank of the Kherson region, said the Minister of Internal Affairs in Kherson, where the Headquarters for the liquidation of the consequences of the hydroelectric power station dam explosion is located. Ihor Klymenko, who is in charge of the response activities, visited the points where residents whose homes had been flooded were being transported by boat and all-terrain vehicles.
"The evacuation work is ongoing. We are trying to do it as quickly as possible. We are hampered by strong currents and shelling by the russian military," said the Minister of Internal Affairs.
Rescuers and police are rescuing not only people, but also pets that they manage to save. After that, the victims are taken to the assistance centres.
"The headquarters will work around the clock - as long as necessary. At the same time, we are working on the tasks we will face when the water recedes. There is a lot of work to be done. First of all, it will concern environmental pollution. 150 tonnes of motor oil leaked out of the engine room when the hydroelectric power plant was blown up," said Ihor Klymenko.
