Ministry of Health of Ukraine, posted 12 March 2025 15:40

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a resolution on the allocation of funds for the restoration of the historic buildings of the National Children’s Specialised Hospital “Okhmatdyt”, which were damaged by a russian missile attack. The adopted document defines the mechanism for using UAH 6.3 million raised as part of a joint fundraising campaign by the UNITED24 platform and monobank.

“Our focus remains on the reconstruction of medical infrastructure. According to the latest World Bank estimate, the reconstruction needs in this sphere over the next 10 years amount to USD 19.4 billion. We are rapidly rebuilding hospitals and outpatient clinics, as well as modernising medical facilities. Today, the Government has issued a decree to reallocate about UAH 6.3 million to rebuild Okhmatdyt. This means urgent emergency and conservation work in two hospital buildings. In general, the restoration of Okhmatdyt is a government priority for this year, and we will work consistently on it,” said Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a government meeting.

The funds will be used for emergency and rehabilitation works, in particular:

    • UAH 5.46 million – for the preservation of toxicology building No. 3, which is a local historical monument. Proposals are currently being collected for the tender announced by Okhmatdyt for the necessary works.
    • UAH 868,000 – to repair the administrative building, which also has cultural value.

The funding is allocated within the Specialised Medical Care budget programme under a special fund of the state budget. The main goal is not only to restore the hospital but also to preserve its historic buildings associated with prominent Ukrainian doctors.

As a reminder, on 8 July, a missile strike damaged 5 buildings of Okhmatdyt, two of which have the status of cultural heritage monuments. To determine further actions, the hospital convened a commission with representatives of the Department of Cultural Heritage of the Kyiv City State Administration and the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications. The commission prepared an act recommending that emergency and urgent restoration work should be carried out first, followed by the development of scientific and design documentation for the restoration of the monument (restoration and adaptation) and the actual restoration of the building.

The allocation of funds will provide the proper conditions for the restoration of the damaged historic building. First and foremost, it is important to protect the building, which has a nearly 130-year history, from further destruction under the influence of external factors. Before the restoration begins, its functional purpose will be reviewed in accordance with the hospital’s current needs.
