Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Liashko met with Czech Governmental Envoy for the Reconstruction of Ukraine Tomáš Kopečný and the Czech delegation to discuss projects to modernise Ukrainian healthcare facilities.
“According to the latest World Bank estimate, the reconstruction needs in the healthcare sector over the next 10 years amount to USD 19.4 billion. Unfortunately, this figure is not final. In the last year alone, the number of damaged healthcare facilities has increased by almost 40%. The support of our partners is critical for us. The Czech Republic is a participant in the Ukraine Facility programme and is potentially ready to finance the reconstruction and modernisation of 13 hospitals in 7 regions of Ukraine. As of today, the European Commission has agreed with Czech partners to support 6 public investment projects,” said Minister of Health Viktor Liashko during the meeting.

The participants of the meeting discussed the details of the implementation of the agreed projects and plans for further cooperation to improve the efficiency of Ukrainian medical institutions.
It should be noted that for more than three years, the russian army has been systematically shelling Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure, including medical facilities, such as hospitals, outpatient clinics, etc. So far, the russians have damaged 1,984 medical facilities and destroyed another 301.
During the meeting, the Minister also thanked the Czech Republic for the humanitarian aid provided. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs has allocated EUR 4.3 million for medical equipment and machinery for hospitals, ambulances, buses and communications equipment for medical units.
