Ministry of Education and Science: Japan provides Ukraine with more than 7,000 units of computer equipment for 382 professional colleges and schools
A total of 382 professional colleges and schools in Ukraine will receive modern computer and multimedia equipment within the framework of the Emergency Recovery Programme, implemented by the Government of Ukraine and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with the participation of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
In particular, the programme provides for the delivery of more than 7,000 units of computer equipment, including:
- 3,920 personal computers (desktops),
- 1,747 interactive panels,
- 1,422 laptops to support the remote work of teachers in frontline areas.
“Vocational and professional pre-higher education is directly linked to the needs of the economy and the country’s recovery. This is where specialists are trained to meet the current demands of the labour market, which is why investments in this sector deliver tangible results. Through cooperation with international partners, colleges receive equipment that enables them to work with modern technologies, update teaching approaches, and strengthen students’ practical training. Ultimately, this is about more practice-oriented education that responds to the needs of the economy,” said the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovyi.
Support for education is one of the key areas of cooperation between Ukraine and Japan in the recovery process. Japan has already implemented a number of projects, including the transfer of:
- agricultural equipment (tractors, ploughs, seeders, harrows) for 12 vocational education colleges (2024);
- tractors for 12 agrarian colleges (2025);
- more than 1 million copies of language and literature textbooks for Grade 5 students of the New Ukrainian School (2024);
- computer, multimedia and other equipment for 85 Digital Education Centres (2024).
“This is the first large-scale systemic support for the sector of professional pre-higher education from international partners. The equipment provided will help colleges modernize the learning process, expand the use of digital technologies, and create better conditions for preparing students for the modern labour market,” emphasized Dmytro Zavhorodnii, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformations and Digitalization.
Modernization also covers the content component of the PPHE education system. Updating educational standards aims to adapt them to modern technological changes, economic development, and the integration of Ukraine’s education system into the European educational space.
The work of the approved subcommittees of the scientific and methodological commissions in the PPHE education sector – which include researchers, educators, industry experts, and business representatives – provides for the review and modernization of educational standards across relevant specialties.
This includes defining up-to-date graduate competencies and updating learning outcome requirements. The involvement of employers ensures that the current needs of the labour market are taken into account and strengthens the practical component of educational programmes.
“Investing in people is central to JICA’s support for Ukraine. PPHE institutions equip young Ukrainians with the skills that drive recovery and future growth, making them indispensable partners in rebuilding the country. JICA remains committed to standing with Ukraine by strengthening its education sector – the foundation of innovation, opportunity, and resilient development” noted Osamu Hattori, Chief Representative of JICA Ukraine Office.
The project “Emergency Improvement of Equipment for the Provision of Educational Services” is implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine within the framework of grant agreements between the Government of Ukraine and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
It is one of the largest projects supporting Ukraine’s education system funded by Japan, aimed at improving opportunities for practical learning, expanding students’ access to innovation, and enhancing the quality of education under martial law conditions.
The project is also part of the Device Coalition – an international initiative aimed at providing Ukrainian educational institutions with modern digital equipment.
