Ministry for Veterans’ Affairs: A UAH 282 million resource for housing for 170 families of defenders was directed to local budgets

Subventions in the amount of UAH 282 million for housing for defenders were distributed in full and directed to local budgets. As a result, by the end of this year, 170 families of veterans, including those who are displaced, and families of fallen soldiers will receive compensation for the purchase of accommodation.

It should noted that this amount was additionally planned in the state budget of Ukraine for 2021 due to the support of the President of Ukraine, the Prime Minister and the Parliament.

To date, the funds have been distributed and financed in full in accordance with the monthly schedule of the state budget for the current year.

"These funds have been distributed throughout Ukraine in accordance with the needs of defenders of Ukraine, and this year about 170 families will receive their own housing," said Minister for Veterans’ Affairs of Ukraine Yulia Laputina. "And next year the budget provides for more than UAH 6 billion, of which UAH 5.5 billion will be directed to solving the housing problem for almost 4,000 defenders, who are taken care of by the Ministry for Veterans’ Affairs. This is a strong signal that veterans’ policy is a priority in the country."

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs stressed that the agency would fruitfully cooperate with local executive bodies and local self-government in this matter. The need to pay monetary compensation for housing is determined by regional state administrations. According to this need, the Ministry will distribute a subvention of UAH 5.5 billion to local budgets next year, and they will allocate the amount of funds according to a certain formula, which takes into account, in particular, the average price per square meter of housing in the region.

"The procedure is very simple and transparent - a person standing in line is looking for an apartment. This must be new housing, necessarily put in exploitation, or secondary (this point is essential for regions where no new housing is being built). The person applies to the social protection body, opens a bank account. The social protection body transfers funds to this account, a purchase and sale agreement is concluded, and funds for selected housing are transferred from the account," Yulia Laputina told.
