Ministry of Digital Transformation: Fines totaling UAH 67.2 million for illegal casino advertising — rules reminder
Based on the results of PlayCity inspections over a six-month period, 14 bloggers, websites, and media outlets were fined a total of UAH 67.2 million. While monitoring, experts found content that broke the rules for gambling ads.
Gambling ads in Ukraine are regulated by strict rules. The goal is to limit manipulative formats and protect young people from risky content.
When is advertising permitted?
- If the customer is a gambling operator with a Ukrainian license.
- The advertisement is placed in media specified by law.
- An age restriction of 21+ is indicated.
- A warning about responsible gaming is added.
Any content is considered a violation if it:
- showcases a game interface, bets, or winnings;
- promotes brands of illegal organizers;
- promises bonuses, “free play,” or other benefits;
- presents gambling as a way to make easy money;
- disguises advertising as personal experience.
"Popular bloggers have a huge influence on their audience, so the responsibility for advertising gambling is particularly high here. If it does not comply with the requirements of the law — from format to content — it will have consequences for those who post it," emphasized Gennady Novikov, Head of the State Agency of Ukraine "PlayCity".
