  • Ministry of Social Policy: Resilience Centres may appear in every community
Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, posted 25 January 2024 09:59

On 23 January 2024, the Government adopted the Procedure for organising the activities and ensuring the functioning of Resilience Centres.

Each territorial community can organise a resilience centre - a space where specialists will provide psychosocial support to individuals and families living in the community. The presence of such centres will also enable the hromadas to effectively organise work with its residents: save time for people and professionals to search for information, direct them to relevant specialists or bodies and institutions, and show them the shortest way to the desired service.

In addition, the resilience centres are designed to enhance local volunteering and help local initiatives to implement volunteer activities.

Funding for the centres is provided by the state, while local authorities provide premises and organise the work of the centres.

The need to establish such centres is due to the fact that during a full-scale war, Ukrainians live under the effects of stress and negative emotions on a daily basis. Often, community residents (especially in small towns) do not have access to qualified psychological assistance. In the resilience centres, they will have access to it.

The objective of the Ministry of Social Policy, which is implementing this initiative, is to teach people how to cope with stressful situations, cope with themselves and their loved ones, strengthen local volunteering, and thus unite communities.

The project pays special attention to the development of parenting skills and childcare. The project also focuses on psychological work with military personnel, veterans and their families, as well as support for IDPs and other vulnerable groups.

Each of these spaces is equipped according to the principles of barrier-free, inclusive and safe environment.

The project partners are the World Health Organisation (WHO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Astarta-Kyiv Agricultural Holding, the Believe in Yourself Charitable Foundation and others.

The project is implemented by the Ministry of Social Policy and is part of the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Programme of First Lady Olena Zelenska.
