Ukraine has received mobile F-16 flight simulators for pilot training: Ministry of Defense

Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, posted 30 April 2026 11:23

Ukraine has received its first mobile simulators for the training of F-16 fighter pilots. This will significantly improve the effectiveness of aircrew training and enhance aviation capabilities in defending Ukraine’s skies.

“F-16 fighters are already defending Ukraine’s skies. To increase the air target interception effectiveness, we must continuously improve pilot training and shorten the time from training to combat employment,” said Minister of Defence Mykhailo Fedorov.

Pilot training in accordance with NATO standards

The introduction of mobile simulators is part of the transition to modern training approaches in line with NATO standards.

Ukraine has previously received simulators for pilot training. Simulators enable aircrews to rehearse complex combat scenarios and develop reaction time, decision-making, and situational awareness. The technology enables detailed simulation of specific combat missions before flights on real aircraft.

Mobility and safety of F-16 flight simulators

At the same time, the new mobile simulators have been developed in accordance with Ukrainian requirements and technical specifications, while taking into account the theatre of operations' geographical characteristics.

Their key advantage is mobility. This enables rapid relocation of the equipment, which is critical for pilot safety and the preservation of assets under constant threat.

The use of simulators enables:

  • increased training intensity for pilots;
  • preservation of aircraft service life;
  • reduction of training costs;
  • enhanced the combat effectiveness of aviation.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the partners of the Air Force Capability Coalition, as well as to the governments of the Netherlands, Czechia, and Austria, and to the developer companies for their support of such initiatives,” said Mykhailo Fedorov.
