On September 23, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andrii Zahorodniuk held a meeting with the Canadian delegation headed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine Roman Waschuk.
Andrii Zahorodniuk expressed words of gratitude to foreign colleagues for their consistent support of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the path of reform in accordance with NATO standards.
"Canada is a very close partner for us and we highly appreciate it. We hope for further enhancement of cooperation and for our part we are ready to promote any initiatives", – said Andrii Zahorodniuk.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current progress in the process of cooperation to implement the reform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in particular, training of the military law enforcement personnel, the implementation of the operation UNIFIER, as well as the reform of the Ukrainian Armed Forces command and control system in accordance with the Alliance's standards.
Particular attention was focused on the need to further develop cooperation and attract foreign experts to the priority areas of reforming of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Minister of Defense of Ukraine stressed that priorities in the activity of the Ministry of Defense are the need to revise strategic defense documents, change the structure and function of the defense agency, amend and introduce legislative initiatives such as the Law on Military Police.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to the cooperation in reforming of the education system and training of Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel. Andrii Zahorodniuk emphasized the need for doctrinal transformations in line with the Alliance's best practices.
In his turn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine Roman Waschuk congratulated Andrii Zahorodniuk on his appointment and stressed the need to continue and intensify defense cooperation between the two countries.
