  • Ministry of Finance: Lutsk will receive 17 modern trolleybuses by the end of February within the framework of the Ukraine Urban Public Transport project

    As part of the implementation of the joint project with the European Investment Bank Ukraine Urban Public Transport, Lutsk will receive another 17 new trolleybuses by the end of February 2022. In total, the city of Lutsk purchased 29 modern trolleybuses within the framework of this project. This was announced by Deputy Finance Minister Oleksandr Kava.

    In addition, within the framework of this Project, the municipal enterprise of Sumy City Council Elektroavtotrans received in December 2021 10 new modern trolleybuses Bogdan T70117. At the end of 2021, the Ministry of Finance transferred payment for the trolleybuses delivered to the city. According to Oleksandr Kava, in 2021 Sumy has already received a total of 19 modern trolleybuses.

    The project Ukraine Urban Public Transport is implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure together with the Ministry of Finance, city councils and utilities and provides for the implementation of measures to update the fleet of buses, trams, trolleybuses, subway cars, construction and reconstruction of tram and trolleybus lines, replacement of railway substations.

    EIB loan for the Project to the tune of EUR 200 million is disbursed for a period of up to 22 years, with a 5-year grace period, interest rate - up to 2% per annum.

    Within the framework of the Project it is planned to launch subprojects for the development of urban passenger transport in 11 cities of Ukraine: Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Ternopil, Lutsk, Sumy, Zaporizhia, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Ivano-Frankivsk.

    "Implementation of the Ukraine Urban Public Transport Project enables cities not only to upgrade their public transport and expand their public transport network, but also to reduce traffic jams and save time of our citizens, which is known to be the most valuable and non-renewable resource. It is pleasant that local authorities prefer environmentally friendly kinds of transport and thus caring about the environment, reducing of CO2 emissions and comfort in their city," said Olexandr Kava.

    Background

    Currently, internal procedures for the entry into force of the Financial Agreement between Ukraine and the European Investment Bank (Ukraine Urban Public Transport FL II), which was signed on 09.12.2020 № FI № 90.604 are being carried out. The aforesaid agreement will provide an opportunity to obtain a loan from the European Investment Bank in the amount of EUR 200 million (total project cost makes up EUR 404.5 million). This will open up an opportunity for Ukrainian cities to improve the transport system and attract credit for solving problems of public transport.
