G7 Advisory Council started work on Energoatom corporatization: Ministry of Energy

Within the framework of the meeting of the High-Level International Advisory Council, Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko held the first meeting of the working group on supporting the corporatization of SE NNEGC Energoatom.

The group, established on the initiative of the Minister of Energy and with the support of European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm and heads of energy departments of leading countries, includes the best experts from the G7 countries and representatives of international organizations.

"Ukrainian nuclear infrastructure faces particular challenges in the context of russian military aggression. Nevertheless, Ukraine continues to implement the reform program," emphasized German Galushchenko.

Thus, on February 6 this year, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law on the National Nuclear Energy Generating Company Energoatom. This step is in line with Ukraine's international commitments to bring the management of state-owned enterprises in line with the best international corporate governance standards.

"Energoatom is one of the leaders in the country's electricity sector. Thanks to nuclear generation, we managed to survive the difficult winter of massive shelling and ensure the generation of electricity for the homes of our citizens and businesses. The company produces more than 60% of electricity in Ukraine and is one of the largest operators of operating nuclear power plants in Europe. Corporatization is part of the strategy to strengthen it," emphasized German Galushchenko.

It is worth noting that Ukraine already has successful examples of corporatization of state-owned companies in the energy sector. These are the corporatization of Naftogaz, Ukrenergo, and Ukrhydroenergo.

"Energoatom, 100% of which will remain in state ownership, should also become a more modern, efficient company, a world leader in nuclear energy, thanks to corporatization. Nuclear energy has a special status and a special legal regime, so it is important for us to hear the opinions and recommendations of our key international partners on the corporatization of the company," the Minister added.
