The Government of Canada has contributed an additional EUR 33.4 million (CAD 50 million) to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. This brings the country's total contribution to the Fund to EUR 40.1 million (CAD 60 million). Canada has also pledged a future contribution of EUR 6.7 million (CAD 10 million).

"We are grateful to Canada for its continued support of Ukraine's energy sector since the first days of the full-scale russian invasion. Contributions to the Energy Support Fund are used to purchase equipment needed to restore energy facilities after hostile attacks and maintain the stable operation of Ukraine's energy system," said Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko.

A portion of Canada's new contribution will be used to support the power supply of critical social infrastructure in the health sector through the development of solar generation systems.

"As russia continues its relentless attacks on Ukraine's infrastructure, which aim to leave millions of people without electricity, water and heat, Canada is proud to strengthen its partnership with the Energy Community Secretariat to continue the important work they are doing to help Ukraine rebuild its critical infrastructure," said Melanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada.

"Canada's increased contribution demonstrates our unwavering support for Ukraine's energy sector in these challenging times. This assistance will help restore critical reserves of energy companies and ensure stable operation of the industry. This is a strong signal of international solidarity in favour of the Fund, which has already demonstrated its effectiveness in addressing Ukraine's urgent needs," said Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development of Canada.

As a reminder, the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine was established in April 2022 at the joint initiative of Energy Minister German Galushchenko and European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson at the Energy Community Secretariat.

To date, pledges from partners to the Fund total more than EUR 1 billion. The Fund's donors include the public and private sectors from more than 30 countries, including EU member states, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as international and regional organisations.

During its operation, the Fund has become an effective tool for providing international assistance in the energy sector, enabling Ukrainian energy companies to restore energy facilities after russian attacks, carry out repairs, and install new capacities.
