On June 3, First Deputy Prime Minister Stepan Kubiv met with the rectors of the leading Ukrainian universities to discuss the program of interaction between the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and higher education institutions of Ukraine.
The project is aimed to create a platform for interaction between the Ministry of Economic Development and the leading Ukrainian universities to ensure the development of scientific work in the field of economy and public finance, the formation of a labor pool of the Ministry, as well as creation of opportunities for students to gain experience.
In his statement, Stepan Kubiv noted the importance of attracting future professionals to policy-making and analytical work in the sector of the economy.
"In the modern world of information technology, the scope of knowledge is growing rapidly and we often lag behind these changes. Meanwhile, young people are holders of new knowledge and skills. We have already seen the unconventional thinking of the younger generation when, with the support of UNICEF, for the first time, we prepared and conducted a consensus forecast of the macroeconomic situation in the country with the participation of the youth, and therefore we would like to prolong our cooperation with Ukrainian universities. The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade needs to have a permanent opportunity to obtain creative ideas from young people in the process of preparing Government decisions, as well as to provide young people with the practical experience of using the knowledge that they master in the educational process in practice", commented Stepan Kubiv.
According to the terms of the program, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade will launch and send invitations to universities each spring and announce an admission process for participation in the project. The list of topics for research will be published on the site and on the social networks of the Ministry every time. Research topics will be divided into 3 levels of complexity: 1 level - work with sources, analysis of literature and data, 2 - economic policy analysis, 3 - forecasting. After that, university representatives will choose the courses of the students to be involved in the program, as well as a list of the topics that they will be obliged to prepare in due time.
The works will be carried out both by individual students and groups of students, together with a university professor, a post-graduate student, in the format of course papers, diploma papers, and other scientific studies. The Ministry of Economic Development will identify mentors for feedback to interact with universities for consultation.
Every 6 months, students will present their work to the specifically designed to defend the work Commission of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, which may comprise representatives of business and government institutions. The results of the research will be published on the website of the Ministry. The winners of the program will receive special certificates. The best students-participants will have an opportunity to be on probation at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.
To participate in the project are eligible the students of any year of studying of economic and financial specialties who demonstrate academic success, are interested in participating in the formation of state policy during the internship in the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. The partners of the project will be universities with economics, trade and finance departments, which train specialists in the field of economics, in the fields of international economics and trade, finance, banking, economic cybernetics, and economic theory.
It is expected that within the framework of the program, students will receive practical experience, the opportunity to undergo an internship in the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, relevant data that can be used during the preparation of scientific papers and publications. They will be engaged in discussions and workshops in the Ministry as equivalent experts on economic issues. Universities will be able to access the bases of scientific knowledge, the possibility of organizing the practice for students, and to enhance their image.
In turn, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade receives comprehensive and systematic research on topical issues that can be used in shaping the economic policy of the state, potentially new trained and motivated personnel from the young specialists.
According to the results of the meeting between the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine and the leading institutions of higher education of Ukraine, a Memorandum of Cooperation on the project "Synergy of Knowledge, Experience and Creativity for the Future" was signed.
