  • Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources: We are strengthening cooperation in recording environmental crimes of the occupiers with the help of the EcoZagroza app and the Svidok platform

Ruslan Strilets, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, and James Hodson, CEO of AI for Good, have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.

AI for Good in Ukraine manages the Svidok.org platform. With this tool, every Ukrainian citizen can leave evidence of russian crimes, including uploading photo and video evidence and telling about the ecocide of russians in Ukraine.

"From now on, thanks to the synchronisation of our processes, the data on russian environmental crimes recorded on the Witness platform will be sent to EcoZagroza and processed by the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine. This means that together we will manage to collect even more testimonies from Ukrainian citizens and present them as evidence in international courts," said Ruslan Strilets.

According to him, Mr Hodson highly appreciated our unique development - the EcoZagroza resource. He agrees that the world will not be able to move forward with solving environmental problems without the aggressor's material responsibility for the destroyed environment. That is why it is important to synchronise our efforts to develop the track on calculating damages. It is important to accumulate and preserve objective data on environmental destruction caused by armed aggression for future generations.

"The environmental damage assessment track continues. As of today, more than 5,174 cases of environmental damage worth more than EUR 57.3 billion have been registered. I am grateful to the Witness platform for its significant contribution to the process of recording russian crimes in Ukraine. The partners recognise the importance of rebuilding Ukraine. After all, it is one of the richest biodiversity areas in the world. I believe that together we can do even more on our common path to justice," emphasised Ruslan Strilets.
