The Ministry of Digital Transformation has initiated the release of frequencies for the introduction of 5G, said Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov during a briefing following a meeting of the Government on November 18.

One of the primary objectives for the Ministry of Digital Transformation is to provide 95% of Ukrainians with access to high-speed mobile Internet during the next 3 years.

“At the Government meeting, many decisions were made that bring us closer to the goal of covering the entire territory of the country with high-quality mobile and fixed Internet. Last week we approved the 5G Development Plan. And today the first steps have been taken towards implementing of this plan. The Frequency Release Plan for 5G Coverage has been approved,” Mykhailo Fedorov stressed.

The Ministry of Digital Transformation is working to ensure that every Ukrainian has access to high-speed Internet. After all, presently it is a basic need for people. The goal of the Ministry is to ensure that the whole of Ukraine, whether it is a city of millions or a small village, is covered with modern and similar high-quality Internet.

The plan envisages the release of radio frequency bands occupied by television channels for the introduction of LTE communication technology in the bands 790 - 862 MHz, 694 - 790 MHz.

Ukrainian television now operates on these frequencies. The approved Plan envisages the release of frequencies by companies and tuning of equipment to lower bands by Zeonbud and TRK Eter. Frequency release will not interfere with the work of television, because it will operate in lower bands.

Last week, the Government approved the 5G Development Plan in Ukraine. The announcement of the tender for frequencies for the development of 5G is scheduled for October next year. The deployment of the 5G network is expected to begin in 2022 in the largest settlements. 4G will be used in rural areas, remote areas and cover highways.

To introduce 5G, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved a plan for the use of Ukraine's radio frequency resource until 2025. It is also supplemented by new basic standards LTE/LAA, eLTE-U and PMP. These changes will allow users to get more stable and higher speeds while watching videos and listening to music. And it will also allow to increase coverage and reliability of communication, will promote automation of production technological processes.

In addition, the Government has expanded the powers of the Ministry of Digital Transformation to provide financial support to local budgets for the development of broadband Internet access in Ukraine.
