Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held a briefing on the outcomes of the Government session and told about key decisions aimed at containing coronavirus infection.
"Step number one is introducing quarantine from tomorrow in children's, secondary and higher educational institutions. It is the imposition of restrictions on the organization of mass events of up to 200 people, except for measures when public needs so require," said the Prime Minister.
Apart from that, according to the Head of Government, a number of economic decisions were also made.
"The Government has allocated the first funding of UAH 100 million from the State Reserve of Ukraine for the purchase of personal protection means to serve the current needs for all organizations," said Denys Shmyhal.
At the same time, Ukrainian manufacturers were prohibited from exporting personal protective equipment of domestic production. According to the Prime Minister, there are over four hundred such enterprises in the country.
"For these enterprises, a state order will be carried out at the expense of the Reserve Fund to satisfy the current needs and cover the three-month state material reserve", stressed Denys Shmyhal.
The Prime Minister stressed that the possibility of export will be restored after Ukraine's internal need for personal protective equipment is covered.
"All government decisions are balanced. We analyze daily the situation in Europe and the world. We see how rapidly the situation is developing in other countries, and we do not want to wait for parabolic growth to begin in our country. We want to protect the Ukrainians to the utmost, we want to protect Ukraine and to pass this period as easily as possible. We want to minimize the consequences, it is better to start acting a little earlier or on time rather than to lag behind," emphasized Denys Schmyhal.
The Prime Minister accentuated that a critical role in counteracting the spread of the virus is the self-organization of citizens in matters that the Government cannot influence. For example, natural markets or a rush hour in the subway.
"There are simple rules that everyone has to keep: one has to keep a certain distance, use hygiene products - from washing hands to using masks in case of illness. I hope most of the population already know how to protect themselves and their relatives from the coronavirus," said Denys Schmyhal.
Besides, in order to prevent the spread of the disease in the territory of Ukraine, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine has initiated a temporary suspension of air traffic with Italy. According to the Head of Government, airlines have already started canceling flights.
At the same time, Denys Shmyhal emphasized that no restrictions on the free movement of citizens had been introduced in Ukraine, but such measures are not excluded.
"This step might take place in the distant future when the situation with coronavirus will be developing. If the situation so requires, in the future, we will embark on such a step. But I hope it wouldn’t come to that. In particular, due to the measures we are implementing now," the Prime Minister summed up.
