The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), under the coordination of the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development, has handed over 430 generators procured with funds from the Government of Japan to Kherson Oblast. Earlier in June, UNDP had already handed over 142 generators for the needs of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
The handover ceremony was attended by Anna Yurchenko, Deputy Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development on European Integration, Jaco Cilliers, UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine, Kuninori Matsuda, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine, and representatives of the Kherson Regional State Administration.
"We will immediately hand over the generators donated by our partners to the local communities so that they can promptly resume providing basic services to their residents. The sooner we do this, the sooner the conditions for Ukrainians to return to their homes will be created. We continue to work with UNDP to provide generators to the regions. We understand that soon we will face autumn and winter cold weather and possibly russia's energy missile terror, so the need for generators will only grow. I am grateful to our partners from the United Nations Development Programme and the Government of Japan for their critical and prompt assistance," said Anna Yurchenko.
This year, UNDP plans to hand over more than a thousand more generators purchased for the needs of 15 regions of Ukraine.
All generators are being handed over under the coordination of the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine.
