Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Ukraine Bridget Brink.

The parties discussed the impact of the recent russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy system and the needs of the energy sector to restore and increase generation capacity.

“The enemy continues to target our peaking generation. After the latest attacks, the losses have already amounted to more than 8 GW of capacity. The situation is quite complicated, so we have to develop mechanisms to compensate for the losses in order to get through the next winter,” said German Galushchenko.

The Minister stressed that all 9 power units of nuclear power plants under the control of Ukraine would operate during the winter season. The volume of electricity imports from European countries is also expected to increase.

At the same time, distributed generation capacities must also be increased to meet consumer needs, in particular through gas turbines, gas piston plants and powerful generators. And the assistance of international partners in this area is crucial.

The parties agreed to jointly develop a plan to prepare for the next heating season and coordinate efforts to restore the Ukrainian energy sector.

The Ambassador assured that the United States would continue to support Ukraine in its fight against the russian aggressor and help strengthen the resilience of the energy system. The U.S. side is ready to assist in the procurement of necessary equipment and coordinate efforts to strengthen the protection of energy facilities.
