The Ministry of Energy, together with Ukrainian energy companies, is actively preparing for the next heating season: restoration and repair works are underway, and the relevant Headquarters is working. This was stated by Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko during a press conference on the results of the 2022/2023 heating season.

“Our task is to repair as much as possible those generating facilities that can be repaired. Unfortunately, there are completely destroyed facilities that cannot be rebuilt. We are working to restore not only generation but also the transmission system,” he said.

The Energy Minister stressed that measures were also being taken to improve the resilience and physical protection of energy facilities in the face of military challenges.

One of the key tasks in preparing for the next winter is to decentralise power generation as much as possible, which will strengthen both the country’s energy security as a whole and the security of supply for consumers.

“Our goal is to build a distributed flexible generation to provide emergency power for the auxiliary needs of large power plants and critical infrastructure facilities in the event of outages, and to increase generation during shortages,” the Minister explained.

To achieve these goals, projects to develop renewable energy sources will be implemented in cooperation with the European Commission, and a distributed generation network using natural gas will be built on the basis of the sites of the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine.
