The 2024 Baku Climate Change Conference, the Ukrainian EcoThreat app, point 8 of Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace Formula on environmental safety and demining.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strilets reported on the results of his working visit to Azerbaijan on his Facebook page.
Ruslan Strilets met with the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babayev.
"The support of Mukhtar Babayev as the president of the upcoming COP29 is particularly important. We focused on climate policy issues, in particular the Paris Agreement and the ETS. I told Mr Babayev about our joint climate projects with Switzerland and Japan. We touched upon the issue of calculating environmental damage caused as a result of hostilities and Ukraine's international track under Point 8. I presented to my colleague the Environmental Compact for Ukraine developed by the International Working Group co-chaired by the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak. These 50 environmental recommendations are relevant for Azerbaijan as a country dealing with the environmental consequences of hostilities," Ruslan Strilets said.
Ruslan Strilets also agreed with the Chairman of the Board of the Agency for Mine Action of Azerbaijan, Vugar Suleymanov, to exchange experience.
"Our countries have a common request to train specialists in this field. We also touched upon the topics of green energy, digitalisation of the environment, and the forestry industry. Mr Vuhar Suleymanov was interested in Ukraine's digital achievements, in particular digital tools in the forestry sector and the EcoThreat app," Ruslan Strilets said.
Ukraine's participation in COP29 was discussed during a meeting with a member of the COP29 organising committee, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Hikmet Hajiyev.
Mr Hikmet Hajiyev assured that Ukraine would receive comprehensive assistance. Azerbaijan stands ready to assist Ukraine with the repair of demining equipment and organise trainings for Ukrainian specialists. The European Union is interested in Azerbaijan's developments to support Ukraine and reduce the time required to clear mines in Ukraine.
"I thank Azerbaijan for organising the conference. This event is particularly important for Ukraine as the most mined country in the world. I am grateful to my colleagues Mukhtar Babayev, Hikmet Hajiyev and Vugar Suleymanov for the productive dialogue. I look forward to strengthening cooperation and mutual assistance between our countries," Ruslan Strilets said.
