On 5 December, during an offsite meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers in Kharkiv region, government officials considered a number of important socio-economic issues in the region. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

“This year, Kharkiv region is among the regions to which we have allocated the most funds. Nearly UAH 16 billion has already been allocated in the form of subventions,” the Head of Government noted.

One of the important areas of funding is the construction of fortifications, for which an additional UAH 6 billion has been allocated.

“The progress of work is at 99.9%. Almost 800 strongpoints have been built and equipped. The Ministry of Defence has been instructed to ensure that all fortifications are equipped with drainage systems for normal drainage. The necessary changes have been made to the documentation, and this work has been completed,” the Prime Minister stressed.

Another issue to which the Government pays much attention is demining. According to Denys Shmyhal, about 320 deminers from various government organisations are currently working to clear the region of mines and explosive devices using 24 mechanical demining machines. About 400 deminers from non-governmental and international organisations are also involved in the process.

The Prime Minister stressed that the Government was implementing programmes to return potentially contaminated areas to productive use. This year, the market for humanitarian demining services was opened.

“We urge farmers in Kharkiv region to take advantage of the humanitarian demining market, which allows them to receive 100% compensation for the demining of their land,” said Denys Shmyhal.

He also said that the restoration of housing damaged by the enemy continued. Thus, under the eVidnovlennia programme, the Government has allocated funds to repair the homes of more than 26,000 families in Kharkiv region. In addition, more than UAH 600 million has been allocated to repair apartment buildings in the region.

“We will continue to help in this direction, as housing restoration remains a priority of our Government’s rapid recovery programme,” the Prime Minister stressed.
