Foreign railcars to run on the territory of Ukraine again: to do so, owners need to sign relevant agreement
Ukrzaliznytsia has approved the procedure for determining foreign freight cars as technically compatible with the infrastructure of Ukrainian railways. This decision helps to streamline the issue of running non-resident wagons through the territory of Ukraine.
The company's experts agreed on technical aspects with the railway administrations of neighboring countries and settled a number of organizational issues. As a result, not only the procedure for determining technical compatibility, but also a standard form of an agreement on the organization of foreign freight cars running through Ukraine were developed and approved. At the same time, the current conventional restrictions on their operation are canceled.
The owners of foreign railcars will have 30 days from the date of publication of the agreement to conclude the relevant agreements with Ukrzaliznytsia and provide the necessary technical information to determine the interoperability of the cars for their further use in domestic rail traffic.
As a reminder, starting from March 1, 2025, a convention was in force in Ukraine that restricted the use of foreign freight cars. The reason for this was the termination of the Agreement on the Joint Use of Freight Wagons in the Former CIS and related regulations, which made it impossible to continue using cars registered in other countries on Ukrainian infrastructure.
