Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi met in the framework of the Ukraine Recovery Conference in London.
The parties discussed the results of the IAEA mission's visit to the occupied ZNPP and the current situation at the plant after the dam at Kakhovka HPP had been blown up.
German Galushchenko expressed his expectations for a full and comprehensive assessment of the situation at the plant, including the state of equipment and control systems of the nuclear facility.
This is extremely important, given the possible threats that the military and the political leadership of Ukraine draw attention to, in particular, the intention of the russians to commit a terrorist act at the plant.
German Galushchenko also talked with Rafael Grossi about the format of the IAEA's assistance to Ukraine in overcoming the consequences of the catastrophic crisis caused by the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant dam.
The parties confirmed their arrangements to send a mission to Ukraine to provide assistance under the IAEA Support and Assistance Mission to Kherson Region (ISAM) program. The mission is scheduled to visit the affected areas to assess immediate needs and develop a long-term action plan. In particular, the IAEA's many years of experience will be useful not only in eliminating the immediate consequences of the dam's explosion, but also in long-term recovery in the areas of human health, food and drinking water safety, animal health, soil and water management, and in assessing the condition of critical infrastructure.
