  • German Galushchenko: Ukraine’s wind power potential is 140 GW
Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 20 September 2023 13:29

International companies are interested in investing in the development of wind power generation in Ukraine, the potential of which is estimated at 140 GW. This was stated by Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko on Ukrainian Radio.

According to the Minister of Energy, Ukraine has lost about 80% of its wind power generation as a result of the russian military aggression.

“Most wind farms are located in the south of the country, where there are suitable climatic conditions – first of all, the necessary wind speed. Unfortunately, today this part of the country is temporarily occupied and almost all wind generation has been lost,” he explained.

At the same time, this area of renewable energy continues to develop, even in the midst of war.

“In particular, this year we launched a wind farm in Mykolaiv region, adding 114 MW to the system,” the Minister said.

German Galushchenko stressed that the greatest potential for wind power development lay in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, which unfortunately could not be developed due to the war.

“But we already have a large number of interested companies from all over the world that will come to Ukraine to produce wind power after our victory. We are in constant contact with our partners who are eager to come to Ukraine, to the wind power sector, whose potential we estimate at about 140 GW of electricity,” the Minister said.
