  • German Galushchenko: We have been going through this heating season smoothly

russia is a terrorist state, and it may again resort to energy terror and systematic attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities. However, the Ukrainian energy system is demonstrating its sustainability and maintains a stable operation during the current heating season.

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, said this in an interview with the Yedyni Novyny (United News) national telethon.

"Only natural disasters and massive enemy attacks can critically affect the system. There is no danger of blackouts due to other reasons," the Minister of Energy stressed.

German Galushchenko reminded that in 2023, the largest repair campaign had been carried out at Ukraine's energy facilities, resulting in a significant improvement of the power system after enemy attacks.

"As of the end of spring last year, up to 50% of the power system was affected by the attacks. Therefore, it was critical to recover to the maximum extent possible. We carried out scheduled repairs, but it was important to restore the lost generation, which had been substantially damaged. We set a goal to restore 1.7 GW in the system before the start of the winter maintenance period, and 2.2 GW have already been restored. We have been going through this heating season smoothly," he stressed.

The Minister noted that, in addition to repairs, Ukrainian power engineers had implemented a programme of passive protection of power facilities, which provides for special structures to protect critical nodes at power generation and transmission facilities.

"But the best defence for the energy sector is air defence systems," added German Galushchenko.
