Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Ukraine Bridget Brink. The parties discussed areas of cooperation to assist the Ukrainian energy sector in the process of rebuilding and strengthening the resilience of the energy system.
Particular attention was paid to preparations for the next heating season, which could be quite challenging given the likely continuation of russian attacks on energy infrastructure.
German Galushchenko stressed that Ukraine was in the midst of the largest-ever repair campaign at energy facilities, and that measures were being taken to strengthen the physical protection of energy infrastructure and decentralise generation. He stressed that the maximum number of specialists were involved in the work to restore damaged facilities, including transmission systems, as soon as possible and to protect them from future hostile attacks. At the same time, the Minister of Energy stressed that air defence systems were the most reliable protection for energy infrastructure.
The Minister thanked the United States for its assistance to Ukraine's energy sector and briefed the Ambassador on the current needs of energy campaigns.
The meeting also focused on ensuring nuclear and radiation safety at the russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP, as well as international cooperation to increase pressure on russia in the nuclear sector.
