Agricultural sector support programs triggered by the Government are proving their efficiency, gaining momentum, and they will be strengthened and become more targeted in order to increase production and the global market presence.
The Head of Government stressed that 2018 year was very productive for agricultural producers. Thus, the grain harvest reached 65 million tons versus 61 million a year ago. More than 6 thousand enterprises received state support, almost 104 thousand households are taking advantage of livestock subsidies programs. The number of jobs in the countryside already exceeds 3 million, and this is only the beginning of a revival of the agricultural sector. The international trade geography encapsulates 190 countries, and by the end of the year, new opportunities will be opened on the market of Turkey and Israel, with which the negotiations on the establishment of a free trade zone are being concluded.
"The objective of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food is to improve the target assistance. Next year, the funding of programs will amount to UAH 7 billion. We need better targeted support mechanisms which will offer more opportunities to farmers. We must not only be present in the world markets, we need in-depth processing within the country," Volodymyr Groysman underscored.
The agricultural sector, which forms almost 17% of the country's GDP and almost 38% of currency earnings, is included in the list of economic growth points of Ukraine. According to the results of the first eight months of 2018, the growth of agricultural production was + 4.9%. 290 Ukrainian enterprises have the right to export to the markets of the European Union. The volume of capital investments in agro enterprises for the first half of this year amounted to UAH 26.9 billion, which is almost 10% more than the corresponding period of last year.
