Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman proposes at the central government level to discuss and resolve the issue of inequality in women's and men's salaries that takes place in Ukraine. He aired such a proposal at the Ukrainian Women's Congress.
The event was held in Kyiv for the second time and gathered about 500 most active and successful women and men from politics, business, NGOs and media of Ukraine. The purpose of the Congress, among other things, is to unite people around the idea of gender equality in various sectors of Ukrainian society. This year, women's career opportunities in the army, the gradual increase in the proportion of women among government officials, and domestic violence have become one of the key topics of the gathering.
The Prime Minister placed a special emphasis on the fact that the Ukrainian Women's Congress becomes a powerful movement that has broad public support.
"I am glad that, for example, the representation of women in the government is growing. The fifth part of the government is women. And I know that where women work, there is accuracy, responsibility and high quality. It would be unfair not to notice or admit it", Volodymyr Groysman said. "And now we need to eradicate wage inequality. We look at the statistics and see: for some reason, women get less money. This practice should sink into oblivion. The problem requires an immediate solution. If there are proposals for a systemic resolving, we will consolidate the majority for decision-making, " the Prime Minister emphasized.
