The economy and industry which are demonstrating a growing trend require improvement of logistics and infrastructure, especially in the railroad transportation service. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman made this statement, commenting on the launch of the first General Electric TE33A locomotives that are produced for PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia under a cooperation agreement signed with U.S. General Electric (GE). The localization level is 10%, according to the agreement this figure will reach 40% over time. The first route was Melitopol-Volnovaha-Mariupol , where 3.8 thousand tons of iron ore were delivered to Donetsk region enterprises. According to the plan, by the end of the first quarter of 2019, the number of such locomotives will reach 30 and operate in Melitopol, Mykolaiv and Mariupol directions.
"The launch of locomotives in a strategically important direction is a very positive signal. We need to increase volumes. We must do our utmost to ensure that our economy, export-oriented enterprises are provided with high-quality logistics and infrastructure. New diesel locomotives in the direction of Mariupol will provide the region with the opportunity to deliver its products to ports and consumers," Volodymyr Groysman stressed.
According to the Head of Government, the development of Donbas is an indisputable landmark. "No matter what, we will develop this direction and make it as powerful as possible. And here we are talking not only about freight traffic, but also passenger, as well as readiness for peak loads during the period of active construction work and agrarian season", he emphasized.

On February 23, 2018, General Electric and PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia have signed a 15-year agreement worth about $1 billion. This deal gave a green light to the launch of a qualitatively new stage in the development of Ukraine's transport system, which will promote the attraction of new technologies, the creation of new jobs and the development of the country ’s export potential.
Commenting on the agreements, the Prime Minister stressed that the negotiations with GE lasted only five months and led to the signing of the significant deal and he added that the Government always stands ready to support innovative investments in order to create high added value products and new jobs in Ukraine.
