Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman entrusted the leadership of Naftogaz and JSC Ukrgasvydobuvannya with a task to actively increase the volume of own gas production, to launch news gas wells and to increase gas output to 20 billion cubic meters per year which will allow to meet a strategic target - to become fully energy independent state. The relevant instructions were announced during a special meeting with the participation of market players, parliamentarians and members of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

The Head of Government stressed that Ukraine’s dependence on expensive gas from other countries and impact of import fuel prices on the situation inside the country depend on actions of the gas companies. And while everyone understands the importance of switching to own resources, the state-owned gas monopolies demonstrate lukewarm attitude towards solving this issue.

"It is very important to ensure energy independence. And the production of Ukrainian gas should be increased. We met all the necessary conditions - amended the legislation and  introduced new auction procedures. The Government, for its part, has done its utmost to achieve production to 20 billion cubic meters of gas. But I see that JSC Ukrgazvydobuvannya demonstrates somewhat formal approach to achieving these goals. Today I held a meeting to take stock of what has been done, and to set new tasks. I need energy independence of the state. And it depends on our actions today - how quickly we will achieve this," the Prime Minister underscored.
