The strategic task of road services of Ukraine – both at the central and local levels – is to abandon temporary patching and embark on systemic, major road repairs. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman said commenting on the issues of the start of an active road construction season. Today, March 21, the Head of Government is on a working trip to Lviv region, and during the trip he inspected the repair of the road section T-14-16 Lviv-Pustomyty-Medenychi. Lviv region demonstrates positive performance in the development of the road infrastructure. During 2017-2018 more than 500 km of roads of public and local importance were put into exploitation, the financing amounted to UAH 5.5 billion. Lviv has already been connected by repaired routes with neighboring Ivano-Frankivsk, Lutsk and Ternopil - within the framework of the five-year Government program of connecting regional centers with high-quality highways. This year, the sum worth UAH 1.8 billion was allocated to road infrastructure in the region.

"Our strategic objective is to deviate from patching and switch to systemic building roads, which is provided by the Strategy of road infrastructure development. We approved such a strategy in 2018, and it provides for connecting all regional centers with high-quality roads within 5 years", said Volodymyr Groysman. "But we are well aware that so far in Ukraine there are many unrehabilitated road networks, roads in the perilous condition, because they had not been repaired for 20-30 years and were just destroyed. Therefore, regional departments of Ukravtodor (State Agency of Motor Roads of Ukraine) make temporary patching. It cannot be considered permanent, it is temporary and emergency repair. But we must abandon this practice and switch to major construction".

The Head of Government stressed that this year's road construction activities triggered early. "This year we allocate unprecedented funding (in total over UAH 55 billion). We have modern technologies, we establish a system of quality control of construction activities. We need time and systemic approach to the implementation of the plans", added the Prime Minister.
