Each hryvnia allocated by the Government for road works is to be invested in a quality of road surface, implementation of traffic safety programs and construction of convenient infrastructure. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman during the Government sitting.
He stressed that, despite a heavy debt burden and external challenges, this year the Government managed to allocate an unprecedented UAH 47 billion, of which a sum worth UAH 11.5 billion was directed to local roads.
"I recall that over the period of 2005- 2013, the state debt increased by $ 50 billion, however during this period, except for Euro 2012, roads have not been built. Everything we got was in a deplorable state. But no matter how hard it was, we found UAH 47 billion that were directed to construction and reconstruction of roads. Of which, a sum worth UAH 11.5 billion was allocated to regions. And now we need the responsibility (for carrying out of work and utilization of funds)", Volodymyr Groysman said.
The Head of Government reminded that he had commissioned the State Audit Service to conduct checks on the use of funds and the quality of work performed. The results will be made public and submitted to the law enforcement agencies for further analysis and decision-making. According to the Prime Minister, the situation regarding the road works in the country is unstable. In some regions the percentage of the plans is up to 100%, but in others does not exceed 20%. "This is a poor management and an inability to engage not only in the construction of roads. It is necessary to strengthen local self-governments and be demanding of their work",the Prime Minister claimed.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine includes a sum worth UAH 56 billion for carrying out road works in the next years’ budget.
