Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 10 December 2021 08:57

The Minister of Energy German Galushchenko met with the newly elected Energy Community Secretariat Director Artur Lorkowski and Deputy Director Dirk Buschle.

The parties discussed plans for the period of Ukraine's presidency of the Energy Community.

"Ukraine has taken over the presidency of the Energy Community. And we will use this tool to strengthen the energy security of both Ukraine and the entire European continent," said German Galushchenko.

To enhance the security of energy supplies, Ukraine has already proposed an RESP - Regional Energy Security Partnership initiative. "This is the way to a more secure future in the context of energy supplies. We want to ensure that the situation we see today with gas in Europe does not happen again," said German Galushchenko.

During its presidency, Ukraine will further promote the integration of the energy and gas markets of the Contracting Parties to the Energy Community with the markets of the European Union. Ukraine is currently actively preparing for synchronization with ENTSO-E. The integration of the energy markets of Ukraine and Europe will be a mutually beneficial process for both parties. In particular, it will strengthen the stability of the European energy system and contribute to the decarbonization of Europe's energy sector.

Director Artur Lorkowski, in turn, expressed hope that Ukraine's ambitious plans would be successfully implemented through close cooperation between the Ukrainian Government, the Ministry of Energy, the Minister of Energy as President of the Energy Community and the Community Secretariat.

It should be noted that Ukraine took over the presidency at the 19th meeting of the Energy Community Council of Ministers on November 30 in Serbia.
