  • Emine Dzhaparova has delivered a Joint Statement on behalf of 40 UN member states on Russia's human rights violations in Crimea to the UN and support to the Crimean platform

    On October 4, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparovа proclaimed a Joint Statement on behalf of 40 UN member states on the Human Rights Situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea during the 48th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

    The key points of the Joint Statement, signed among others by Ukraine, The United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Germany, Australia are as follows:

    • condemnation of of the Russian Federation’s disregard for its obligations under international law, including human rights law

    • support to the launch of the Crimea Platform

    • call on the Russian Federation to comply with its obligations, in accordance with the rules of international law, and condemned any attempts by the Russian Federation to legalize the annexation of Crimea     

    • condemnation of the holding of elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation from 17 to 19 September on the sovereign territory of Ukraine without the consent of the Ukrainian side and did not recognize the results of these elections

    • strong condemnation of the politically motivated searches and detentions of Crimean Tatars, in particular, Eldar Odamanov, Asan and Aziz Akhmetovs, Shevket Useinov, the first deputy Сhairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Nariman Dzhelyalov

    • emphasizing the need for Russia, as the occupying power, to comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law and in the field of human rights, to restore human rights of all residents of Crimea, to immediately and fully implement the order of the International Court of Justice of April 19, 2017 on the resumption of the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and an end to oppression Crimean Tatars

    • expressing support for the territorial integrity, political independence and sovereignty of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders and determination to work together to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms of all residents of Crimea.
