The upcoming heating season is going to be the most challenging in the history of Ukraine, emphasized Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during the Government meeting on October 4.
The Head of Government noted that thanks to the operation of nuclear power plants, Ukraine has sufficient resources to provide the country with electricity. Integration into the European power network ENTSO-E also allows Ukraine to receive assistance from European partners if necessary.
"Without the Zaporizhzhia NPP, the energy system of Ukraine will operate at maximum load during the winter. Nevertheless, each of us can contribute to the energy sustainability of the country. For instance, by shifting household and industrial electricity consumption to night hours when possible. Such simple things give a huge cumulative effect and help the country to endure the difficult winter period with minimal losses," stressed Denys Shmyhal.
The Head of Government has added that Ukraine continues to work with partners on the demilitarization of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and the establishment of a 30-kilometer safe zone around it. Given that the ZNPP has been demilitarized, Ukraine, the Prime Minister noted, will have more opportunities to balance its internal energy system and will even have a chance to continue exporting electricity to Europe.
"It is also of great importance, if possible, to pay on time for received communal services, for electricity, gas, heat, water. In case of non-payment by the population, the budget will be the source to compensate the expenses, diverting financial resources from supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine," said Denys Shmyhal.
The Prime Minister emphasized that our country had demonstrated unity time and again, therefore saving energy resources this winter is also an investment of every Ukrainian to victory over the enemy.
