  • Adhering to European Green Deal is the basis for Ukraine’s recovery and further sustainable development

Despite russia’s full-scale military aggression and terrorism, Ukraine is consistently following the path of European integration.

Ukraine is actively implementing the EU’s 4th Energy Package. Moreover, its main areas of focus – energy efficiency, decarbonisation, and green transition – are in line with the country’s needs for recovery and further development.

This was emphasised by Olena Lenska, Director of the Renewable Energy Department of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, during the 15th meeting of the Renewable Energy Coordination Group of the Energy Community.

“One of the priority areas for replacing natural gas and further decarbonisation is the production of biomethane. To develop this area, Ukraine has created a legal framework. As a result, the country’s first biomethane plant was recently launched. Further projects are expected,” said Olena Lenska.

Olena Lenska also outlined a number of draft laws aimed at developing bioenergy and referred to the draft National Renewable Energy Action Plan until 2030, which has undergone a strategic environmental assessment and will further be submitted to the Government.

“It is important for Ukraine to continue to follow modern European trends in sustainable development. That is why we are gradually implementing the provisions of European directives,” concluded the representative of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving.
