Affordable medicines, energy independence for hospitals, and health screenings — the focal points of the meeting between Yulia Svyrydenko and Viktor Liashko

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko held a meeting with Health Minister Viktor Liashko regarding key programs: Affordable Medicines, Energy Independence for Hospitals, and Health Screening.

The Prime Minister stated that over 6,400 Ukrainians aged 40 and older have already undergone screening. Another 133,000 have submitted applications both via the Diia platform and offline through the Centers for Administrative Services Provision (CASPs). Participants have already received over UAH 220 million. Screening is available at over 1,700 facilities and includes checks for cardiovascular risks, diabetes, and mental health.

According to Yulia Svyrydenko, starting next week, prescription-free medicines will be sold at petrol stations. 15 licenses have already been issued, with another 43 applications pending. Oversight is provided by the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control.

In addition, the Prime Minister announced that the Government is expanding the Affordable Medicines program—adding 37 new drugs starting in April. By 2026, the program shall cover over 1.5 million patients. The program’s budget is UAH 8.7 billion.

Yulia Svyrydenko also noted that during the meeting, efforts were coordinated to ensure the energy self-sufficiency of healthcare facilities as part of the implementation of Regional Resilience Plans. “Over 250 facilities already have solar panels, and we will equip another 300 by the end of the year. We are also preparing a pilot project to install batteries for all hospitals, primarily in frontline regions,” the Head of Government reported.
