Representatives of the World Food Program (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) plan to help the agricultural sector with demining. This was discussed at a meeting of the delegation of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine with representatives of the mentioned organizations.
The meeting was attended by Denys Bashlyk, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalization, and Mykhailo Sokolov, Advisor to the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine. The meeting was attended by WFP representatives - Matthew Hollingworth, Country Director of the World Food Program, and Marianne Ward, Deputy Country Director of the World Food Program in Ukraine. The FAO was represented by Pierre Vauthier, Head of the FAO Ukraine Country Office.
The parties discussed in detail a joint project to demine agricultural land in the liberated territories. The project primarily provides for land demining directly for small agricultural producers who are unable to do it independently.
The participants considered further joint steps necessary to implement the project. They exchanged views on the demining process, the principles of prioritizing the selection of sites, the possibility of purchasing demining equipment, and the issue of involving specialized organizations in the project.
Denys Bashlyk emphasized that assistance to small businesses in demining was currently a priority for the Ministry.
The parties agreed to work on the discussed proposals for the project implementation and return to the development of practical steps for its implementation in the near future.
