Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine's Economic Recovery Penny Pritzker. The parties had a meeting during the International Ukraine Recovery Conference 2024 in Berlin.
"We have lost 9 GW of power over the past few months. The attacks continue, and it is difficult to estimate what the losses will actually be by the beginning of winter. Our main task now is to increase generation capacity to the maximum and protect our energy facilities," the Minister said.
German Galushchenko stressed that power engineers were carrying out repairs at the facilities damaged by the enemy and would do everything possible to restore them as soon as possible. To this end, international assistance is being sought, in particular, the equipment of decommissioned power plants that can be used at Ukrainian facilities is being studied in partner countries.
Efforts are also underway to increase the capacity of distributed generation by installing gas turbines, gas piston units and powerful generators. The Minister stressed that coordination of international efforts to supply the relevant equipment is very important in this area. The parties discussed the measures that could be taken by the U.S. Department of State and partners from the G7+ group to facilitate this process.
The Minister noted that the Government of Ukraine is removing obstacles to the import and installation of decentralised generation equipment.
Special attention was paid to the protection of Ukraine's energy facilities, in particular strengthening air defence.
The U.S. Special Representative assured that the United States would continue to support Ukraine in its fight against the russian aggressor, particularly on the energy front.
